Upon graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno Behavior Analysis
Program, Christine determined that the local community needed a particular type of service which was not available at the time for teens and young adults. With the help of her partner and administrator, Tina Walsh, they opened an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practice.

Their Story

Finding the Right Balance

The entire practice needed to give their full attention to clients to offer quality in-home and clinic ABA and commitment therapy (ACT) group services encompassing social skills, independence, safety, language programs, and parent and family training services. Technology for ABA billing software was not fully developed, and using additional in-house staff and IT resources would be costly, and cut into clinical support and training budgets. With no billing companies in the area having ABA billing experience, they needed a solution.

Why? Patient satisfaction and practice efficiency both increase immensely! Not only would this allow your patient to determine a monthly budget, but it would also allow your practice to continue to count on that source of income. Unfortunately, health bills are confusing patients more and your chance of a successful transaction is going down each year.

Their Goals

Taking Action

Tina went looking for an experienced ABA billing company outside of their
community to handle lengthy telephone prior authorization calls with insurance companies. ABT contracted with an insurance company and were the first to seek an outsourced commercial billing company, Ponderosa (PBSI), for accounts receivable management.

The Solution

Dividing The Workload

PBSI enabled the ABT practice to manage their billing process, which
translated to a better level of quality care and customer service. With expert knowledge in ABA coding and billing, we understood the challenges and paid great attention to detailed processes. We kept them current on billing regulations, coding changes, and monitoring accounts receivable so they could manage a busy practice, keeping client care and quality staff as the main priority. We completed billing processes efficiently to help maintain a positive cash-flow.

The Results

An Educated and Focused Team

ABT avoided the need to hire experienced staff and IT support and saved time and money. The practice more than doubled it’s growth with the education and resources they have received from the PBSI team. It has resulted in positive and sustainable changes to billing practices.
With accurate billing that meets evolving standards and policies of the
individual insurance companies, we reduced the stress associated with quality claims submittal. Cash flow remains consistent, and staff can focus on the practice and clients.

“After six years, we have grown to be the largest locally-owned ABA provider
in the state. Billing processes are streamlined, effective and accurate, and
require a limited amount of time and energy on our part.”
